This course is suitable for anyone:

• who has no previous experience in the care sector
• who is a caring for someone in their home or residential setting

 
You will cover:
 
Day 1
Principles of care, aspects of personal care, including continence,
care plans, risk assessment, basic food hygiene and equal opportunities
 
Day 2
Health and safety, infection control, medication, confidentiality,
personal and service user security
 
Day 3
General Social Care Council’s (GSCC) Code of Conduct, effective
communication, record keeping, Protection on Vulnerable Adults (POVA)
and Emergency aid
 
Day 4
Moving and handling of people including personal risk assessment
 
By the end of this course you will:

• Have successfully completed a Skills for Care (S4C) course providing you with an introduction to the care industry
• Have completed the S4C workbook and participated in the practical sessions in emergency aid and people handling
• Communicate effectively
• Recognise abuse
• Follow codes of practice and identify values of the service user and carer.

 
This course can be adapted for differing fields such as learning difficulties or the elderly and mentally infirm.
