A new care home is set to create 90 new jobs if planners get permission for the development.

Primary Care Investments Ltd plan to build an 83 bed care home on a patch of land currently used for car parking in York. Plans for the new home which will be next to the private Nuffield Hospital, have already been drawn up and submitted to the City of York Council.

If permission is granted the home is expected to have three floors with ten rooms reserved for disabled residents that are under 65. Staff at the home will provide care for frail pensioners and those suffering with dementia. It is thought more than 58 domiciliary care jobs will be created when the home opens, in addition to 20 positions for nursing staff, eight for catering and household workers and four for administration and maintenance staff.

According to DWA Architects the planning agents for the scheme the loss of the car park will not affect Nuffield Hospital; if approved, the new home will help ease the demand for elderly care providers in the city.

As reported in a the York Press in a statement to the council DWA Architects said: "On a national basis, the population age is increasing yet in the face of rising demand there are overall now less care homes and beds than there were several years ago."

"The development would contribute towards relieving the identified shortfall on care beds in the York district. The home is designed for the care of elderly residents over 65, who have an assessed age related physical or mental frailty which means they are unable to live independently."
