A new study has found that undertaking a 24-hour water fast could be good for the heart, those in dietitian jobs might be interested to hear.

According to the research, lead by cardiologists in the USA, drinking only water for one day could significantly improve the health of the heart and other areas of the body.

Reports confirmed the study's findings, which revealed that the fast "can lower your risks of developing coronary artery disease and diabetes, but also can improve your blood cholesterol levels."

Furthermore, undergoing the fast could help boost a person's metabolism, it was confirmed on Health.NetSimpler.com.

However some experts aren't too sure about the study's revelations, claiming that the dangers associated with diets and fasts could outweigh the benefits. Extreme diets such as the Lemon Detox Diet, 21 Pounds in 21 days and the Liver Detox Diet have all been slammed by medical specialists; however some did say only taking a day to fast could be ok.

Others weren't sold though, such as Michelle May, who is a doctor and recently authored a book called 'Am I hungry? What to do when diets don't work'.

She told The Independent what she thought, arguing: "Extreme diets generally do little more than cause frustration, are potentially dangerous, and are in generally a waste of time and money."
