Training offered for socal housing tenants

26 May 2011 - Deborah Bates

A specialist training scheme has been launched for Boston's social housing tenants, the Boston Standard confirmed.

The training will help tenants learn a whole host of skills; such as reading body language, planning budgets and creating action plans.

Furthermore, over a nine-month period they'll learn about diversity and equality, team building and taking part in meetings effectively from experts at Boston College.

Boston College's sales manager, George Bell, spoke out about the news - which might interest professionals in local supported housing jobs. He claimed that the training forms part of the Mayflower Customer Panel, designed to help local authority housing tenants across Boston.

Bell added: "We all increasingly expect products to meet our needs precisely. This tailor-made course is a perfect example of how this mantra now applies to training."

"The establishment of Mayflower's Customer Panel is in itself proof of the forward-thinking culture at the housing association - enabling tenants to have an impact and ensure continuous improvement in quality and service."

The scheme may encourage other local authorities throughout the UK to do more to help their tenants. As 60 per cent of all English people on low incomes live in social housing, according to BigLotteryFund.org.uk, there are millions of people throughout the country that could benefit from training such as this.

One person who is already enrolled on the training, David Anderson, has spoken of how useful it's been to date. He stated in the Boston Standard: "It is very interesting so far, and has helped us look at recognising our strengths and weaknesses."
