A woman who suffered a stroke at the age of 26, has thanked and praised the help she received from health care professionals.

Moya Grieve told the Belfast Telegraph that suffering the stroke in July 2008, left her unable to walk and talk. As a result she ended up spending seven weeks in the city's Royal Hospital.

"On the 7th July 2008 I had a stroke. I couldn't talk, walk or use my right arm. I was in the Royal Hospital for seven weeks and went through three separate operations," she said.

She explained that upon leaving hospital she attended a number of sessions with those in occupational therapy jobs and had regular sessions with physiotherapists. She revealed that she is still undergoing speech and language therapy, but she admitted she may have struggled without the support of her family, friends and the numerous health service professionals that have helped her on her journey of recovery.

"My family and the support of the health services have all greatly helped me on the road to recovery. I couldn't have done it without them," she added.

Although she still has slight aphasia and weakness in her right arm, Ms Grieves is slowly rebuilding her confidence. She is now undertaking a computer course in addition to attending regular arts and crafts sessions.
