A Bath nurse has been awarded the Queen's Nurse badge in honour of her 10 years of dedicated service.

District Nursing Sister Shonna Spreadbury was awarded the accolade at an event held in London's Mayfair to honour those with social care jobs.

The badge, which recognises expertise in the field is awarded annually by the Queen's Nursing Institute, a charity dedicated to improving the nursing care of people in their own homes.

The nurse works with housebound patients to administer palliative and wound care, amongst her other duties.

Ms Spreadbury told This is Bath, "I feel privileged and fortunate to be a Queen's Nurse. I haven't worn the badge yet but I will. it's nice that your work is recognised in such a way.

"Nursing as a profession is very satisfying and rewarding. This award recognises the contribution of a wider team, of community and district nurses in Bath who work very hard to provide high standards of care to patients."

Divisional director of adult social services at Bath and North East Somerset NHS Stella Doble told banes.nhs.uk, "Well done to Shonna. Receiving the Queen's badge is really impressive and reflects not only her dedication and hard work but the commitment and professionalism of the district nursing teams who continue to do a marvellous job."
