Up to 90 social care jobs could be created by newly unveiled plans for a 60-bedroom care home in South Shropshire, reports the Shropshire Star.

Castleoak Care Developments, a Cardiff based company, has submitted plans for a new 60 bed care home in Ludlow, near the A49. The company claims that its plans will help meet a "county-wide" need for an additional five care homes of similar size to serve an ageing population.

According to a planning statement by the developer's agent, Asbri Planning Ltd, a growth of 3,810 in the elderly population over the next 10 years will mean Shropshire will need a minimum of 612 additional care beds by 2019. Asbri says that it estimates "at least five new 60-bed care homes" will be needed "by the end of the next decade."

If approved the development will create a mixed range of full and part-time positions, from domiciliary care jobs to nursing staff.

"It will be 60 bedrooms plus the communal spaces, dining rooms, day rooms, medical facilities, kitchens and laundry," says Barrie Davies, the developers planning agent. "Part of the building will be occupied by residents who may suffer from dementia or age-related illnesses, so there will be specialist nursing staff who work in the facility."

"It will probably create nearer to 80 or 90 jobs - it's a 24 hour facility, so a lot of people will be there part time.
