A seven-year-old from Cornwall has been given his life back after an operation and ongoing physiotherapy have allowed him to walk without external aids.

According to the Daily Mail, Beau Britton - who has cerebral palsy - is able to walk "unaided" after undergoing an innovative, life-changing operation at Bristol's Frenchay Hospital.

The procedure is called selective dorsal rhizotomy (SDR), and combined with ongoing physiotherapy, will help Britton to regain some quality of life.

His mother spoke of her joy and confirmed Britton's good news on ClaimsNews.co.uk. She said: "What has amazed me are some of the instant effects. As far as we can tell, he is not waking up with cramps at night due to spasticity anymore."

"Also, his cerebral palsy meant that his legs were crossed and his feet were planted on top of each other. They are now straight. He can also wriggle his toes."

Britton's story may inspire surgeons and those in physiotherapy jobs across the nation, as it has shown just how important and life-changing their work is for some - particularly as Frenchay's physiotherapists will play a vital part in Britton's development over the coming months, allowing him to do things he has never done in his life before.

These will hopefully include wearing a pair of wellies and jumping in puddles, Britton's mother said, who also added that she'd like to see her son be able to ski, and dance unaided.

She concluded by praising the consultant who worked on her son, stating: "He has given beau a second chance,  chance of a more normal life, which is priceless."
