The performance clinic based in the University of Sunderland is looking to expand, meaning more physiotherapy jobs may become available. There is high demand for physiotherapists, especially around sports based universities, where injuries occur more often.

The clinic is based at the new CitySpace building at the University of Sunderland and is run by Penny Macutkiewicz. Ms Macutkiewicz is thinking of taking on new members of staff after the 'bdaily business news network' reported a large demand for the clinic's treatments.

Ms Macutkiewicz said that people in sports have been travelling from all over the area to visit the clinic, which was opened last week by the university's chancellor, Steve Cram, and has been booked up since.
She said: "Athletes and sportspeople are travelling across the region to use our services. We’ve been fully booked since opening and I’m delighted to say that we are currently looking to recruit two new physiotherapists. The Performance Clinic is accessible to all and treatment prices are reasonable. I want to encourage those with sports injuries who would usually ignore them, hoping they will go away, to come and see what a difference professional care can make."

Ms Macutkiewicz has worked with leading sports people and athletes since 2002, such as Olympic swimmers Joanna Jackson and Chris Cook. She has also provided medical support to Paralympic Gold medallist Stephen Miller and the Newcastle Eagles basketball team.
