A new anonymous survey has been launched by the Queen's Nursing Institute (QNI) that is aimed at gathering as much information as possible about the state of home-care nursing in the UK.

It forms part of the organisation's wider Right Nurse, Right Skills project, which will be presented at the House of Lords later this year by experts in senior nurse manager jobs.

Speaking to Nursing Times, QNI director Rosemary Cook explained that the survey is accessible online until September 16th and it is aimed at patients, nurses and those close to people who have accessed care, since they will have observed the process in action.

She said: "This kind of first hand, qualitative information is very important in helping us to find out what works well in home-based nursing, and where improvements could be made."

The results of the survey will be combined with other evidence before being unveiled to the public in the autumn.

A new nursing project has started up Edinburgh called the Family Nurse Partnership, which is being trialled by NHS Lothian and offers extra support to young mothers for after the birth of their child as well as before, reported the Scotsman.

The newspaper pointed out that the scheme also offers help for fathers, ranging from parenting advice to finding employment.
