New social care centre creates new jobs

14 January 2010

New social care jobs could be offered after a new social care centre has opened in Conwy county in Wales. This new centre has opened to serve rural communities in its joint venture between Conwy County Council and the Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board in Llarnrwst.

The centre will greatly help those who usually travel further for care. It will be a base for social care staff and has replaced the current community health clinic in Watling Street.

Michael Williams, chair of the Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board said: "We are delighted to see the joint health and social care centre venture come to fruition in Llanrwst, reflecting the strengthening working partnership between Conwy council and the health board."

Jobs which are currently being recruited for in the new centre are children's social workers. As a social worker you will act as an adviser, a counsellor and a listener for children and their families who are experiencing difficulties. You will need to be a qualified social worker and know exactly how the social welfare system works. You will also work with other professionals such as: teachers, doctors, nurses, police and lawyers.

Glyn Jones, chair of Conwy council, said the centre provided the "best possible services to local people. Bringing staff together within this purpose built accommodation can only benefit service users - Canolfan Crwst is an excellent addition to the facilities available on this site."
