Community regeneration specialist Frank Haslam Milan (FHM) North East has joined forces with Your Homes Newcastle (YHN) to launch a series of new build projects.

The regeneration firm has already started building 17 new homes and has also been granted planning permission to develop two other schemes which will provide accommodation for people with learning disabilities.

The new properties currently under construction on Kenton Road will specifically offer accommodation to young families and will be the first of its kind in Newcastle. The young families living at the development will be helped to move into independent accommodation by those in supported housing jobs.

The day to day managing of the scheme will be through the YHN's local housing office. The development will have an outdoor play area, communal lounge and a indoor play space as well as an office which will have a interview room to be used by YHN staff. The scheme will also have CCTV monitoring and residents will be provided with a 24 hour responsive call out service.

David Mellor, managing director of FHM North East told The Journal: "We are proud to be developing the first ever accommodation specifically for young families in Newcastle. The existing supported housing provision for young people in the city is more appropriate for single persons and does not cater for the requirements and aspirations of young families."
