An old dairy farm in Hampshire could be transformed into an 80-bed nursing home, creating hundreds of new jobs.

Local newspaper The News say that a building in Fareham, which currently houses Parker Dairy, might eventually be converted into a home for the elderly, which in turn would open up a number of nursing and nurse manager jobs.

Plans for the new home were submitted to the local council by Highwood Residential Hampshire. They hope to fit out the three-storey building in Redlands Lane with 80 bedrooms and six bungalows, specially designed with the needs of elderly dementia sufferers in mind.

The plans also include the creation of 32 parking spaces, bicycle storage facilities for staff and visitors, and guest accommodation. The building's gardens would also receive a makeover under the proposed redevelopment.

According to Fareham Borough Council's website, there are around 45 existing care homes in the Fareham area. However, local councillor Dennis Steadman has worked on plans for the new development for over a year, and feels that the new care complex would be an excellent addition to the local area.

He told The News: "It would be a great improvement. I don't see what sort of problems anybody would have with it."

"It will make it [the local area] a lot better than what we have got there now. Anything we do to accommodate the older people is great," he added.

Fareham Borough Council are currently considering a planning application for the redevelopment, with a decision likely to be made in the near future.
