Magazine launched for children's social workers

21 July 2010 - Hannah McLaverty-Williamson

A new monthly magazine has been launched for social workers, whose job is to work with children and families.

The publication titled Social Work Now, will offer those in social work jobs tips and advice to help them in their everyday working lives. The magazine will also provide an insight into the best working practises, taken from social workers across the country.

The unveiling of the magazine, produced by Children and Young People Now (CYP) coincides with the national recruitment drive for children's social workers. The industry is trying to rebuild its image and boost staff's morale, after high profile child protection cases have featured in the media after ending in tragedy.

The magazine will be available to all local authority social work teams, any students studying for social work degrees and the current subscribers of CYP Now.

Ravi Chandiramani, the editor of 'CYP Now' and editor-in-chief of 'Social Work Now' said: "We want Social Work Now to be a helpful companion for all those who work tirelessly to safeguard children, young people and families.

"We hope it will make them feel good about the work that they do, which is among the toughest, most important jobs around," he added,

Ten editions of Social Work Now will be published each year, with the publication available every month except for January and August. The next issue will be available in September. Social Work Now will run alongside the CYP's other monthly magazine Youth Work Now.
