Labour have said that if they won a fourth term in power, they would invest more in specialist nursing care, meaning more nursing and nurse manager jobs would become vacant to help thousands more in need.

Gordon Brown also said that he would make sure that no-one would wait longer than a week for cancer tests if his party won on May 6.

The NHS has reportedly been Labour's biggest achievement since they have been in power, with health secretary Andy Burnham saying:  "We've expanded the NHS, in size and number of employees. It's a much bigger health service. The systems we've introduced make it more efficient."

Mr Burnham also said he wouldn't cut spending on the NHS, but that Primary Care Trusts would get an increase of five per cent.

He continued: "I'm pitching to be returned as Health Secretary because I want to finish the job of rebuilding the social care system. It's the one part of the welfare state that isn't provided on a nationwide risk-and-cost sharing basis. We let the most vulnerable fend for themselves."

Labour, like the other parties, say it's up to the people to decide and you will be able to on May 6.
