Around 1,000 new beds and hundreds of social care jobs could be created this year in care homes in Yorkshire.

Ideal Care Homes, set up last year by Yorkshire Entrepreneur Lawrence Tomlinson made a profit of £3 million in its first year of trading alone, money he in injecting into doubling the size of his business.

The firm currently has 1,032 beds in homes across Yorkshire, something they aim to rise to 2,006 by March 2012, in a move that will create 50 jobs in the industry. Tomlinson is keen to point out however, that the growth is not going to undermine the quality of the existing upmarket development and he has no plans to dominate "the whole world."

He told yorkshirepost.co.uk, "We have had a really good year. I would have been happy just to break even (knowing) the strength we have in the business going forward."

The move will see the staff of 1,000 rise by a further 800, and 150 jobs created in construction for the building of the homes.

Tomlinson has put his success down to the government's austerity cuts, adding, "For us, the cuts are a very positive thing. It makes local authorities look at their own provision. They see how cost-effective we are and it helps them save money."

As one of the buildings was finished, Tomlinson told The Times, "I'm thrilled to see the roof going on at Dearne Hall.

"I'm very familiar with the needs of the local community and I am keen that local residents all benefit from having such a first-rate facility on their doorstep at prices they can afford."
