A hospice in Scarborough has celebrated its silver anniversary year by announcing the vast improvements it has made to its service.

Reports confirmed that St Catherine's Hospice has greatly improved the services provided by its social workers, doctors and those in occupational therapy jobs.

Furthermore, it has increased the number of patients it has helped in the local area, and currently provides home support to "70 per cent" of its patients, STCH.org.uk revealed.

The hospice's chief executive, Lee Barker, confirmed the news and also praised those who had help get the hospice to where it is today. She also told the Scarborough Evening News what the hospice's plans are for the future.

Barker stated: "Thanks to everyone who has contributed to making our 25th anniversary such a special year. It's been a very busy year."

"There are a number of changes happening in the wider health economy, including...the move to GPs commissioning services in their own locality. This fits very well with our push to support closer to home if that is what they need and want."

She went on to tell how the hospice had made hundreds of home visits to patients over the year; in addition to holding special bereavement sessions for locals - which helped support some 380 patients. Furthermore, the hospice held an open day which 154 locals attended; helping promote the hard work of the hospice workers.
