Good news for Scottish nurses training up for nurse manager jobs - a Glasgow nursing school that was threatened with closure is set to stay open.

A review of nurse education in Scotland announced the school would stay open "until at least 2013" after Glasgow University's governing body announced last week it would be "postponing a final decision on the school's future until the end of a national review into nursing education provision in Scotland," cites Nursing Times.

As a result, the university has been told to accept applications for the academic year 2011-12 and 2012-13 and are looking forward to plotting a "successful future" despite the "considerable challenges [that] lie ahead".

According to BBC News, cuts will be made elsewhere as the university is looking to make savings of up to £20m.

Professor Anton Muscatelli, principal and vice chancellor of the university, looks to the future for the schools: "The difficult decisions have been addressed, coupled with the work that has been done to turn around our finances, means that the future prospects for the continued excellence of the University of Glasgow are extremely promising.

"We will continue to provide a world-class learning and teaching environment, and look forward to the future development and success of the university with considerable optimism."
