The physiotherapist for the Runcorn Linnets football club has won a community award, after recently being awarded an MBE.

Jenny Leyland will be the recipient of the Barclays Community Sports Award for March; given in recognition of her help towards improving the local neighbourhood through football.

The award is sponsored by Barclays Spaces for Sports, the Football Foundation, and the Creating Chances programme developed by the Premier League. By winning the award, Leyland will be in the same league as the Barclays Managers of the Month and Players of the Month.

Furthermore, she will soon pick up an MBE for her "service to grassroots football," Runcorn and Widnes Weekly News confirmed. This may encourage others in physiotherapy jobs to go the extra mile, as they too may be able to win awards through their work.

Leyland said she was "gobsmacked" to have won, as she didn't even know her football club had nominated her. She added on RuncornLinnets.co.uk: "I'm totally made up at winning the award."

Alongside the actual trophy, Leyland's team will be given £1,000 and automatic entry into the Barclay's end of season awards.

She told the press what she planned to do with the money, claiming: "The cheque will buy a kit for our new under eights, and the rest of the money will go toward the funding for the defibrillator's we are looking to get."
