Plans to transform a site in East Grinstead into a £25 million retirement 'village' have been given the green light by local authorities, according to a press release published by Industry Today.

The company behind the project, Retirement Villages Ltd, has already built similar retirement communities in the UK, and will base the new development on this successful blueprint.

Retirement Villages Ltd plans to transform an old Edwardian manor house into a Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC), with facilities including a restaurant, library and treatment suites.

The CCRC would also include 83 purpose-build extra care buildings and a 60-bed care home. 100 new care and nurse manager jobs would be created by the development, which would house around 180 residents.

Council officials will meet with the development company and land owners in the next few months to discuss final design plans, so that work can begin next year.

Jami Puckering, of Retirement Villages Ltd, said that the project would respect the nearby surroundings and that it would create a much-needed facility for local residents.

"The consultation process we have undertaken has ensured we have developed plans which will fulfil a need within the community while remaining sympathetic to the surroundings and our neighbours," Mr Puckering said.

Mr Puckering added that his team would continue to work closely with local authorities, and that he hoped the project would become "a leading example of a care village in the UK".
