Thousands of social care jobs are available every month, says a recent feature in British newspaper The Daily Mirror.

Citing the support and on-the-job training given to those who start a career in social care, The Mirror points out that given the high demand for social care workers there are also plenty of opportunities to gain hand-on experience. They say that each month "20,000 jobs are up for grabs every month in the busy but rewarding world of social care.''

One of the main reasons that the high demand for people to fill social care jobs has not been stymied by the recession is that people continue to live longer. Over the past 25 years, an additional 1.5 million people have reached the age of 65 years or older; by 2033, it is estimated that nearly a quarter of the population will fall into this category.

"As life expectancy shoots up, so will the number of jobs in adult social care" says The Mirror.

The article goes on to cite several examples of vacant domiciliary care jobs in homes and sheltered accommodation around the country, as well as the widespread need for care assistants and support workers throughout the UK.

Sue Veszpremi of the government's employment service said in the article: "Social care is a chance to make a real difference to peoples lives, picking up great experiences and new skills along the way.''
