Recently submitted plans to demolish one of Scunthorpe's oldest pubs and replace it with an extensive care home could create around 30 social care jobs in the area.

As reported in the Scunthorpe Telegraph, proposals submitted to North Lincolnshire Council would see the Crosby Hotel on Normanby Road demolished for a new 70-bed care home. If approved, the new development would create a total of 27 opportunities in social care, such as residential support worker jobs or facilities staff.

"The scheme will contribute positively to the area's wider regeneration aspirations," said the Ladhar Group in its planning application. "The existing building has come to the end of its useful life and it is important in visual and economic terms that a new, appropriate use is found for the site."

This is the third major care home application made in North Lincolnshire this year, reports the Scunthorpe Telegraph. Also, although this is the first application to be made by the Ladhar group in this area, the group has recently opened two homes in Yorkshire and has several "in the pipeline" across the North-East.

A public consultation on the plans will run until the 13th of September. Following this, the council's planning committee will make a decision in November.

The Ladhar group says that if approved, the development will help meet the potential "care home crisis" faced by North Lincolnshire. The area's elderly population is expected to nearly double by 2025.
