Around £1 million is to be invested in improving social housing in Newcastle after a housing provider took over management of nearly a hundred houses, reports Bdaily Business Network.

Leazes Homes took over management of 91 properties in Bulcher Village from the previous provider and will invest cash into modifying the homes, which will benefit over 200 residents.

After the firm promised to bring the properties up to Modern Homes Standards, the tenants voted to transfer the management of the houses over to Leazes Homes - which may instigate further housing management jobs in the local region.

Bill Midgley, chair of Leazes Homes, commented on the takeover on nebusiness.co.uk: "There is a huge demand for family housing in the Throckley area and this development not only caters for this but also helps to forge a community spirit, improve sustainability and contribute to the long-term viability of the area."

Newcastle City Council has approved of the takeover; with head of housing development and partnership management, Brian O'Doherty, claiming: "The provision of affordable housing that meets modern standards is a priority for the City Council.

"I am delighted that Leazes Homes will be able to provide improvements to the homes which will make a real difference to the lives of residents in the village."
